Vision Care for Kids Act of 2009

The Vision Care for Kids Act would amend the Public Health Service Act to authorize the Secretary of Health and Human Services to award matching grants to states to improve vision care for low-income children who are uninsured, or insured but without coverage for vision care. The grants would fund:

• Existing state efforts to provide comprehensive eye examinations to children who have been identified in previous screenings as needing such services, as well as services or treatment to correct identified vision problems.
• Education and dissemination of educational materials to teachers, parents and vision care providers on how to identify vision impairment in children.[1]
